Adapted from Simply Southern: With a Dash of Southern Soul by the Margolin Hebrew Academy.

This classic tops the list of many Memphian's cravings.

Ingredients:

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 sticks margarine, melted
4 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift together sugar, flour, and cocoa. Stir in margarine until smooth.

Add eggs and vanilla. Beat with a mixer on low speed until just combined; do not over beat.

Stir in pecans. Pour filling into a greased and floured 10–inch pie pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 – 30 minutes.

Serve warm.
